Moonraker’s on land educational activities
School group activities are offered year round and incorporate a variety of learning activities. Prior to visiting Moonraker Charters we create and entire learning program suited to students current curriculum, ensuring the experience adds specific relevant learning information as well as hours of marine adventures and fun.
On Land Activities are:
2 Hour What’s Damaging Our Oceans,
2 Hour Litter and Rubbish Identification,
2 Hour Rockpool and Coastal Revegetation.
‘Litter and Rubbish Identification’
This workshop focuses on the importance of waste, recycling and the overall effects pollution has on Port Phillip Bay. Students learn about the negative impacts of littering and help identify different pollutants. Students will understand the diversity of recycling plastics and how to replace them with useful materials.
The topic Earth Day is discussed as it represents a day of action, raising awareness of environmental challenges negatively impacting Earth. This allows us to educate students how to take care of our environment, conserving energy, water and learning about pollutants.
‘What’s damaging our Oceans’
Our Oceans are becoming increasingly polluted and damaged by rubbish, chemical waste, overfishing and oil spills. Our hands-on water pollution activity creates an impact on our children’s lives to make a difference.
Students will learn about the importance of negative impacts in our local marine environment, they participate in beach activities with qualified and passionate educators and become actively involved in creating a future saving our oceans.
In this workshop students will collect recycled rubbish in the area and create a mosaic using the items from their environment such as sand, rocks, weed and garbage. This will be created in a team building activity aiding in the immediate understanding what we can do to make a difference, both in our ocean ecosystem and for the native marine life.
The curriculum topics covered in this activity are ecosystems, environmental changes, conservation and sustainability.
‘Rockpool and Coastal Revegetation’
Students identify the basic needs of living marine life whilst exploring several different rock pools at Mornington Peninsula Ocean beaches. Focusing on the habitats needed to support marine life which includes the importance of our coastal revegetation. This is a fun and interactive workshop engaging students in their local environment.
Topics are adapted for different age groups, students identify marine life, learn about sustainability and adaptions for survival along with the importance of coastal revegetation.
This workshop is beneficial for students who have a passion for ocean wildlife and habitats, students actively engage in rock pools exploration and identify the change and protection of our coastal revegetation and sand dunes. This includes a coastal vegetation worksheet.
